let me sleep now

in the world in my mind i live my dreams as children do
most grown-ups are unkind to go on as if they never knew
in the world in their minds they still have dreams as children do
but they learn to forget and give up and pretend like me and you
much to our dismay
we wake up one day
to find . . . .
we are grown-ups too

in the world in my mind i remember out of the blue
that place between sleep and awake where dreams can come true
in the world in my mind there are so many things waiting for me to do
more than just dream in my mind to make my dreams come true
so what can i say
we wake up one day
to find . . . .
time has grown-up too

and now there is no time to do most of the things i dreamed i would do
there is barely time to do all the things that survival demands i do
and i sit and complain instead of doing something like other grown-ups do
grown-ups are fools and fools do not have a clue
and so in the end
we are left to pretend
to find . . . .
we are grown-ups too

let me sleep now
i am tired
and i work early in the morning time
is running out
uninspired
and it feels like crime to waste this rhyme
let me sleep now
so i will waste no more rhymes
let me sleep now
let me dream there is still time
